Money and Family Values

Scripture is filled with examples of riches being detrimental to a relationship with Christ. 1 Timothy 6:10 says, "The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." Materialism and instant gratification are so prevalent in our society. It is not possible to serve both God and money.

It is important to teach your children about serving God instead of money. The natural human desire to enjoy material items can be seen when a child opens a pile of birthday gifts. They will tear through an entire pile of gifts so excitedly, with little thought towards gratitude, and toss aside each gift in favor of the next one. On the other hand, the child who spends weeks doing extra chores to earn a reward has learned valuable lessons. On top of that, teach your children the importance of thinking of others before themselves with their piggy banks. How can they bless others?
